General K.S. Thimayya was born in Madikeri, located in Coorg. He developed a love for adventure during his 35 years of military service.
As a student of St. Josephs, Coonor and Bishop Cottons, Bangalore, General Thimayya was exposed to the outdoor life at an early age. In 1926, he was recruited to the 19th Hyderabad Regiment and over 30 years later in 1957, General Thimayya became the sixth Chief of Army Staff.
The General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure is representative of that same spirit of adventure, in thought, philosophy and action.
